Chinking
Chinking is a method where a flexible acrylic mortar-like caulking is put between logs to seal gaps. Originally, chinking was needed to prevent drafts and increase insulation, but with modern technology and newer ways of milling and fitting logs, chinking is not as necessary. It is still used on many homes because it provides an aesthetic quality which appeals to some builders.
